The conservative billionaire Vincent Bolloré, owner in particular of the CNews and C8 channels, will appear in mid-March in the National Assembly before the commission of inquiry into the allocation of television frequencies, its president Quentin Bataillon (Renaissance) announced on Thursday, February 15 ). . Also in mid-March, deputies will hear from Cyril Hanouna, star and controversial presenter of the C8 channel.

Aurélien Saintoul (LFI), rapporteur of the investigation commission, had requested this hearing in January “the person most called to the order of the PAF”, the French audiovisual panorama. On February 29, the head of the Canal+ group, Maxime Saada, and then the management of CNews, as well as its star presenters Pascal Praud and Laurence Ferrari, were summoned before parliamentarians.

The award procedure in question

At the end of February, the media regulator, Arcom, will launch calls for applications for the renewal of authorizations for 15 digital terrestrial television (DTT) frequencies in 2025, including those of Canal+, C8 and CNews. The investigative commission created in December in the Assembly refers in particular to this allocation procedure and “respect for the commitments assumed by these television services” until then. The issue of monitoring these commitments was put on the table again on Tuesday, with the Council of State’s request for deeper monitoring of television and radio stations by Arcom.

The decision of the highest administrative court comes after an appeal by the NGO Reporters Without Borders, which considers that CNews “It has become a means of opinion”, which the latter contests. Since Tuesday, a possible threat to “freedom of expression” and one “Authoritarian temptation”.
