Two journalists from our Investigation Office awarded with an award

The work of our Investigation Office to expose the expenses of the former leaders of the Montreal Public Consultation Office (OCPM) was rewarded Wednesday night with a journalism award.

Journalists Annabelle Blais and Dominique Cambron-Goulet received the investigation of the year award, awarded by the show In the mediain Télé-Québec.

“Bravo for the excellence of your work,” host Marie-Louise Arsenault said during Wednesday night’s broadcast.

They also explained how the difficult financial context of the city of Montreal made their work even more relevant.

In their reports published in November 2023, they revealed a series of costly expenditures made with public funds by former OCMP president Dominique Olivier, former secretary general Luc Doray, as well as their respective successors, Isabelle Beaulieu and Guy Grenier.

In particular, they showed that Mme Ollivier spent $17,793 of public funds on restaurants between 2016 and 2019. One of those meals was a $347 oyster dinner in Paris in 2016.

Resignations and dismissals

Following the reports, Dominique Olivier resigned from her position as president of the city of Montreal’s executive committee and Guy Grenier and Isabelle Beaulieu were fired.

The city’s auditor general also opened an investigation. The Legault government also amended the statutes of the city of Montreal and the city of Longueuil to prevent similar situations from happening again.

The City of Montreal also announced the complete review of its employee expense approval policy.

Among the other prizes awarded by the salon In the mediaQuebec Minister of Culture and Communications, Mathieu Lacombe, was named “media personality of the year.”
