The Canadian believed that Cayden Primeau was going to come out in the second round

Samuel Montembeault is currently the number one goalie on this team. At least that’s how it was when Jake Allen left.

But Cayden Primeau’s recent performances are attracting attention. The American plays very inspired hockey and plays better than Montembeault.

Tony Marinaro said this a few days ago:

I have the impression that for Martin, Montembeault is not the number 1 goalie like Suzuki may be the number 1 center. The biggest battle for me next season will perhaps be goaltending. –Tony Marinaro

It’s hard to disagree.

Goaltenders are always very difficult to develop and it usually takes a long time for a goaltender to establish themselves in the NHL.

The proof: Primeau (future member of the US national team?) was drafted in 2017 and did not make an impact in the big leagues until 2024. Seven years eating black scabs, then.

But what you need to know about the 2017 draft is that the Canadian had Cayden Primeau in the second round of his mock draft. I had him ranked third, behind Jake Oettinger and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. We agree that these are not cauldrons.

But that year, Montreal had no intention of recruiting a goalie as the club had Carey Price on its team. major, Charlie Lindgren and Zachary Fucale, among others. However, seeing Primeau available in the seventh round (199th), management had to select him.

As Mathias Brunet told us at BPM Sports, the club did not have a sixth or seventh round pick. Therefore, he tried with the Flyers (the team Primeau defeated on Thursday) to recruit Keith’s son.

This shows that destiny makes things right.

Management obviously liked Primeau’s potential, but it was Bill Burglund, who was “at his wits’ end,” who pushed hard to get him. Burglund was a recruiter in the Boston area and lived in Nashville. He was tired and wanted to retire. Montreal asked him to stay one more season to find good goalkeepers.

He, like us, fell in love.

In 2017, 20 (!) were selected before Primeau.

A lot

– Sad.

– Normal for him.

– To follow.

– Well done.

– Remember that you were arrested for driving while intoxicated.

– 10/10.
