While we recently talked about the Top 10 movies (all categories combined) and the best science fiction movies, today let’s focus on animated productions and those that, according to our own assessments, are considered the most successful.

The Lion King at the top

At the top of the podium is a film that has long been the biggest commercial success of animation (and which also appears in eighth place in the overall classification): the legendary Lion King from the Disney studios, made in 1994 by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff. Often cited by fans as one of Enchanted Studios’ most legendary works, this epic animal adventure set in the African savanna earned an average of 4,512 stars out of 5.

A little further down, in second place, we find the most recent Your Name, a fantastic drama by Makoto Shinkai in the form of body swapping, and rated with 4,467 stars out of 5. It should be noted that including Your Name, 6 of the works that Up to this Top 10 animated feature films are of Japanese nationality.

Walt Disney Animation Studios

Released the same year as Shinkai’s film, it is the moving Coco from Pixar studios that obtains the bronze medal in the ranking with an average of 4,462 stars out of 5. This magical and musical journey to the afterlife according to Mexican culture is signed by Lee Unkrich and Adrián Molina.

Looking at this ranking, we can also see that 4 feature films from Studio Ghibli are represented there (namely Grave of the Fireflies, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke and The Tale of Princess Kaguya). We also highlight the presence of the last two Spider-Man feature films, produced respectively in 2018 and 2023 by the Sony Pictures Animation studios.
