NFL: The Packers qualify for the playoffs in the 18th and final week

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin. – The Green Bay Packers did what was necessary to clinch their playoff spot on Sunday, beating the Chicago Bears 17-9 in the final week of NFL action.

Green Bay (9-8) thus closed the door on the New Orleans Saints and the Seattle Seahawks, who were expecting a defeat for the “Cheeseheads.”

The Packers qualified for the postseason for the fourth time in five years under Matt LaFleur and Jordan Love’s first season as the team’s starting quarterback.

“I mentioned it during training camp: He’s the best quarterback in the league,” Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander said. He has shown it in recent weeks. »

“I think everyone knew what we were capable of,” Love said. All the games we lost were close games, with small things that we were able to fix and then win the following games. I think we were always present at every meeting. »

Last year, they found themselves in a similar situation in their final game of the season, but suffered a 20-16 loss at the home of the Detroit Lions in what would become Aaron Rodgers’ final game with Green Bay.

As the NFC’s seventh team, the Packers will be seen in action at AT&T Stadium next weekend, facing the NL East champion Dallas Cowboys earlier on Sunday.

Veteran coach Mike McCarthy, who leads the Texan team, will welcome the team with which he won the Super Bowl, at the end of the 2010 season.

Quarterback Jordan Love had his second 300+ yard passing performance, finishing his night with 316 yards and two touchdown passes, both to Dontayvion Wicks.

Since 1992, the Packers have posted a commanding 50-15 regular-season record against the Bears, whom they manhandled at will during the Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers eras.

Chicago finishes its 2023 campaign with a 7-10 record. Illinois has the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NFL draft, thanks to a trade it made with the Carolina Panthers last year.

The Bears will have to choose whether they want to keep Justin Fields or select his potential successor.

“I control what I control,” Fields said. This summer I will get in shape, spend time with my family and improve. I went through the same thing last year. »

The Panthers concluded their season today with the worst record on the Goodell Tour, 2-15.
