“The Beast”, by Bertrand Bonello : Our favorite

Genre: existential abyss. In 2044, when artificial intelligence has taken power, a woman is forced to mentally relive her past lives and loves. A romantic dystopia where Bertrand Bonello mixes film genres and where Léa Seydoux captivates. (With Léa Seydoux, George MacKay, Guslagie Malanda. 2h26.)

The other movies

“Daaaaaali!” by Quentin Dupieux

Genre: paranoia-playful. A slightly shy journalist wants to make a documentary about Dalí, a megalomaniacal artist multiplied by six actors. Time loops, films within the film, dreams within the dream… A perfectly surreal Dupieux, who plays admirably with time, space, cinema. (With Anaïs Demoustier, Gilles Lellouche, Edouard Baer. 1h18.)

“Green Border”, by Agnieszka Netherlands

Gender: against immobility. Brutal and moving, this drama shot in icy black and white denounces the fate reserved for immigrants on the border between Poland and Belarus. Highly documented, attended by notable actors, the play burns with a healthy anger. (Avec Jalal Altawil, Maja Ostaszewska, Behi Djanati Ataï. 2h32.)

“The Kingdom of Kensuke”, by Neil Boyle and Kirk Hendry

Genre: contemplative fervor. The vast archipelago of movie castaways now has a new island! This ode to nature and tenderness (human or not) is the most beautiful shipwrecked story since The red turtleby Michael Dudok de Wit. (With the voices of Cillian Murphy, Sally Hawkins, Raffey Cassidy. 1h24.)

“Elaha” by Milena Aboyan

Genre: anatomy of a grip. Elaha, a young German woman, lives under the strict surveillance of her Kurdish parents before her arranged marriage. But she manages to see the boy she loves again. A moving and very illuminating first film about a confrontation with the law of patriarchy. (Avec Bayan Layla, Derya Durmaz, Nazmi Kırık. 1h55.)

“Race for glory: Audi vs. Lancia”, by Stefano Mordini

Genre: Daniel Bruhl in a car. 1983. The Audi and Lancia teams compete in the world rally championship. Stefano Mordini explores, in a somewhat simplistic way, but with a true feeling of suspense, this mythical epic, embodied by magnetic actors. (With Riccardo Scamarcio, Daniel Brühl, Volker Bruch. 1h33.)

“Les Petits Singuliers”, by Sonia Gerbeaud, Jan Gadermann and Meinardas Valkevičius

Genre: made the original. Made in stop-motion, Laika and Nemo perfectly embodies the philosophy of this animated short program: affirming one’s uniqueness in front of others. Among 2D movies, it is In the right place! that stands out, with its air of animal Kingdom. (Animated short films. 0h47.)

“The Tiny Creatures” by Lucy Izzard

Genre: for young children. The plasticine creatures babble in the playroom. Everything is revealed: shadows, hiccups… and everything is delight, friendship and reconciliation. An Aardman production (Shaun the Sheep) tender and happy! (Animation.0h38.)

“Roquette and the Unloved”, by Hélène Ducrocq

Type: unpretentious. Director of unloved (2020) continues to campaign for the protection of species with a bad reputation, with four animated shorts made from pieces of thread. The shark is the center of attention for its beauty. Attacks! in digital 2D. (Animation. 0h40.)

Not seen by editorial staff.

“Cocorico”, by Julien Hervé

With Christian Clavier, Didier Bourdon, Sylvie Testud. 1h32.

“The Last Jaguar” by Gilles de Maistre

With Lumi Pollack, Emily Bett Rickards and Wayne Charles. 1h40.

“Operation Portugal 2: Life in the Castle”, by Frank Cimière

With D’Jal, Grégoire Bonnet, Aurélie Boquien. 1h32.
