Jacob Fowler nominated for NCAA Goalkeeper of the Year

Jacob Fowler’s season is exceptional.

And I don’t mince words.

The goalkeeper, who at 19 years old is in his first university season, is among the best players on the circuit and that is exciting. He was named to his conference’s first all-star team and was so good that Pierre McGuire believes he could play 60 games in Laval next season.

When you look at his stats, you realize how dominant he was at Boston College.

He had an excellent club before him and that cannot be neglected… But his numbers are really impressive:

  • 27-5-1 sheet
  • Goals against average of 2.23
  • .923 (!) efficiency rate

Fowler’s exploits do not go unnoticed, because today we learned that he was selected among the finalists for the Mike Richter Trophy, which is awarded annually to the best goaltender in the NCAA.

Kaidan Mbbereko (undrafted guard playing for Colorado College) and Kyle McClellan (also undrafted, playing for the University of Wisconsin) complete the list of nominees for the honor:

It’s even more impressive because Fowler is the only one First year student among the three nominated goalkeepers.

This allows us to believe that the Canadian – without saying that we are talking about a steal because it is too early to do so – seems to have made a very good play in the last draft.

In all this, the interesting thing about Jacob Fowler is that he is not afraid to face the music.

He likes big moments and he loves pressure… And his personality makes him seem to have the mindset playing in a market like Montreal, where there is a lot of media coverage.

Sometimes, it is too intense for the boys and we can think of Jonathan Drouin to report it… But the Canadian’s new management is aware of this and that is why they want to get young players with a great personality.

The choice of Juraj Slafkovsky also explains it well, because even before being selected by the CH he was very confident.

All this to say, at the end of the day, we must salute Jacob Fowler’s work this season.

And it would be great to see him win the honor, because it would really be the cherry on top after the season he had.

A lot
